Volunteer “Wheelchair bus looking for driver”
Dekkersduin, The Hague
In Dekkersduin, six group homes have been built for people with dementia and 1 group home
for residents with a physical disability. Eight residents live together in each home
home environment, where they lead a daily life that is as normal and recognizable as possible for them.
Dekkersduin, together with Uitzicht, has 2 8-seater (wheelchair) buses at its disposal. This transports participants from the Meeting Center 3 days a week and we make trips with the residents of Uitzicht and Dekkersduin.
What does your work consist of?
We are currently looking for a driver for Thursday afternoon. Together with a Dekkersduin employee, you and a few residents will go on a small outing of about 2 hours.
This could be an outing to a garden center, boulevard or just a drive, etc.
Attendance times will be between approximately 12:00 PM and 3:30 PM
What does Florence expect from a Volunteer “Bus Driver”?
The following expectations are central to this position:
- Be in possession of a valid driver's license
- Preferably experience in driving a small bus, (if insufficient experience will be a
driving skills test via an ANWB driving school).
- Preferably good street knowledge in The Hague and/or handy in using navigation
- Be prepared to take a driving skills test once every 5 years
- Have an affinity with the elderly (with dementia) and also follow a training course (part of the day) for this
- Be patient
- Be physically able to wheel wheelchairs on and off the bus (using an electric lift) and place them on a
properly secured in the bus (you will receive instructions for this from one of the other drivers).
- Prepare the bus before the start, if necessary.
- Take turns cleaning the bus
