Activity
You give the children extra attention and do fun things with them. This way you can read a story, but also cuddle with the guinea pigs. You can also brush the animals together in the meadow and feed them green fodder. There is always a supervisor from the Stadsboerderij present.
Please note: it may occasionally happen that there are no children and that you are asked to help with the farm activities. Be sure to put on a warm coat in winter, because it is cold in the stables!
Target group & impact
Language delay is common in this district. That is why the city farm Schildershoeve started with the 'Bookworm'. A colorful cupboard full of books for the children in the neighbourhood. With the 'Bookworm', the farm tries to stimulate reading and reading aloud in the neighbourhood. Research shows that reading to children regularly contributes significantly to language development.
Location
Stadsboerderij Schildershoeve is located in the middle of the Schilderswijk in The Hague. At the Schildershoeve, children can experience what happens on a farm every day. The city farm has a major educational function and is also a meeting place for young and old.
