Summary

Do you know how to capture that one beautiful, happy or colorful moment, surrounded by 200 people? Then we are looking for you!

Detailed description

Every year we organize the Vakantiebos; three weeks full of fun activities for children between 4 and 16 years old. A treasure hunt, a water fight, crafting, building things; just a selection of all the activities we organize.

All these activities are organized by a team of Dutch and European volunteers who try to make every day a party. They are often so busy with that that it sometimes fails to capture the fun moments and that's why we are looking for you!

What do we ask of you?

Þ You are available from 1 to 19 August, because that's when the Vakantiebos is!

Þ You have and are handy with your own photo camera. Nothing works better than with your own camera, right?

Þ You are handy with Photoshop. We want to share more than just a photo. Sometimes a collage, sometimes a photo report.

Þ You speak English. Our team is reinforced every year by a group of volunteers from all corners of Europe, who do not speak Dutch. Does your English have to be a 10? Please, but a 6 is also good!

Þ You are flexible. Every day is different and often goes differently than planned.

Þ You have a sharp eye. There are just 150 children and 60 volunteers walking around one day. It's up to you to pick out those special moments and put them on the sensitive plate.

Þ You have a pair of sturdy shoes. Our building and grounds are large and we always play spread over the entire field. Great work and a workout in one. What else do you want?

What do we offer you?

You get three weeks of fun with our team of volunteers.

You will receive a financial compensation.

During the three weeks we also organize all kinds of activities for our volunteers. A barbecue, a

karaoke evening or a surprise outing; it's all part of it if you want it.

About Stichting Don Bosco Rijswijk

Don Bosco Rijswijk is a Multicultural Youth Center with youth activities, after-school care, and room rental, focused on Rijswijk and The Hague. With holiday days during the school holidays, and the Vakantiebos during the big school holidays. The center has many indoor and outdoor facilities, making it very suitable for youth, groups and family gatherings.

Method

Don Bosco's way of working with young people is known as the 'preventive pedagogical system'. It can be summarized with a few key concepts. Presence is its core. Not to 'check' young people, but to 'be there' and thus build a relationship with them.

Love is the binding element in the system. Young people need to feel that attention is being paid to them 'from the inside'. Dialogue means that the working method is not a one-way street. By entering into a dialogue, young people feel taken seriously and are more motivated to bear responsibility – a fourth key concept – for themselves and for others. Stimulating means that young people come to discover and further develop their own possibilities.

Don Bosco took trust for granted. Instead of treating young people as immature and indepen- dent, he gave them his confidence to develop. After all, growing people need space, literally and figuratively: to play, to experiment, but also to make mistakes and correct them again.
