Nederlands Instituut Veiligheid Zwemlocaties (NIVZ)

Non-profit or charityDen Haag

Safe swimming in open water is not a given. Every year, (fatal) drownings still occur, often with profound consequences for those involved and their surroundings. The NIVZ is committed to structurally reducing these risks by developing, sharing, and applying knowledge. As a knowledge institute in the field of drowning and safety at swimming locations, the NIVZ conducts targeted research into the causes of drownings and accidents in and around the water. These insights form the basis for effective prevention and the development of substantiated control measures. In addition, the NIVZ supports (local) authorities, lifeguard organizations, and managers of swimming locations in improving safety. We do this by systematically mapping risks according to international standards and by advising on the drafting and implementation of local safety policy.
