Event Recap: "Together at Home" Volunteer Job Fair & Music Festival in Amare The Hague 2025

Written by

Laura Linga
On Saturday, May 10th, 2025, the beautiful Amare in The Hague became the beating heart of community engagement, music, and cultural celebration as we hosted our "Together at Home" Volunteer Job Fair & Music Festival in Amare The Hague. And what a day it was! With approximately 2,000 enthusiastic attendees and 2,060 volunteer leads collected by the participating organizations, this year's event was our biggest and most vibrant yet, filled with meaningful connections, inspiring conversations, and the shared spirit of giving back. The fair began with an opening ceremony featuring a warm welcome from Gert-Jan Aleman, director of PEP Den Haag (Volunteer The Hague's parent organization), who then passed the floor to Leontien Kröner-van Selms, Manager of Community Engagement at the Residentie Orchestra. Shortly after, Deputy Mayor of The Hague Mariëlle Vavier took the stage to deliver her address, in which she highlighted the vital role of volunteer work in fostering a strong, inclusive community and emphasized the meaningful contributions that internationals can make through volunteering. “Even if you don’t speak Dutch or worry if volunteering really suits you, I am fully convinced that they will welcome you with open arms and make you feel 'Together at Home'. - Deputy Mayor Marielle Vavier This wasn't your average volunteer fair. With a powerful lineup of 105 organisations across The Hague, the event became a dynamic marketplace of opportunities, each booth representing a unique way to make a difference in our community. From organisations supporting children, the elderly, and newcomers, to those championing environmental causes and the arts, attendees had the chance to explore a wide range of roles tailored to their skills and passions. Adding to the magic of the day were breathtaking performances by the Residentie Orchestra and a lineup of local music groups. Each performance reflected the cultural richness of The Hague, turning Amare into not only a hub for volunteering but also a celebration of diversity and local talent. The music wasn’t just entertainment, it was a reminder that community spirit and creativity go hand-in-hand. The joy and energy were palpable as visitors enjoyed the sounds, connected over food and coffee, and shared their volunteering journeys. The theme "Together at Home" captured exactly what this event was all about, making everyone feel welcomed, empowered, and inspired to take part in shaping their community. At Volunteer The Hague, we believe that when people come together with a shared purpose, amazing things happen. This day wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of the "Together at Home" Volunteer Job Fair team and the support of our extended family. Everyone was there from start to finish, giving it their all. Huge thanks to our parent organization PEP Den Haag, and the partners Residentie Orkest, Amare Den Haag, Cultuurschakel, and Gemeente Den Haag (the Municipality of The Hague), this day proved just how strong and connected our city truly is. Until then, we encourage everyone to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn for updates, opportunities, and future events. It was a lovely evening and lots of connections were made between the organisations and attendees. Our favourite part was meeting and networking with the new and old guests together with the local non-profit organisations. It was an amazing evening with wonderful people in a great atmosphere. Our guests went home learning that there is something to do for everyone, acknowledging that those who can, do. And those who can do more, volunteer.
