Come on in As always, the Mix & Match volunteer job fair will be an amazing opportunity for you to meet fellow internationals, mix and mingle with them and expand your social networks. Also, you can expand your professional network because we're going to have dozens of non-profits at our event. You're probably wondering what kind of organizations are going to be there - you name it - we're gonna have it. There will be organizations from helping elderly to looking after animals, fighting social justice, helping homelessness in the Netherlands, so make sure to register on May 13th at this beautiful venue of the Social Hub. Thanks to dutchbuzz for us to be on there show. Sometimes when going through a difficult time, the worst feelings we can experience are feelings of loneliness, isolation and misunderstanding. This is why we crave affection, attention and support from those around us. But, sometimes, it is just not enough when we feel like even the people closest to us do not understand us. Join our informal small and cozy group of internationals who can truly understand what you are going through and share the wisdom of their experiences. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for exploration of the changes brought to our lives by the loss of a loved one. We request that what takes place in the group stays within the group, creating a safe and non-judgmental space.

On 14 October 2021, we once again held our popular Mix & Match Networking Event & Volunteer Job Fair - our first event after the summer holidays! This was a bit of a special "hybrid" event for us, as it was the first time since the start of the pandemic that the VTH team was back in the office together. It was so wonderful to run an event from PEP headquarters and be around one another again! And practically, running the event from a centralized location (as opposed to our own kitchen tables) was very convenient for us. In addition to the VTH team, we were joined virtually by representatives from 12 local non-profits and NGOs, as well as over 160 attendees! For two hours, our attendees mixed and mingled with each other and with the organizational representatives in Zoom breakout rooms - and from what we saw, many positive and fruitful connections were made! And to start off this event, our fantastic speaker (and longtime friend of VTH) Vassia Sarantopoulou of the mental health support organization AntiLoneliness was on hand to give a short presentation on how to cope with constant change in our lives. Considering everything that's happened in the world over the last 18 months, this is both a timely and necessary topic. Take a look at this video to get a sense of how the event went!

Volunteer The Hague is a project initiated by the Municipality of the Hague and organised by the local non-profit organization PEP Den Haag. Their mission is to connect internationals and expats with meaningful volunteer opportunities at local not-for-profit organizations. Importantly, the volunteer listing on Volunteer The Hague’s website do not require Dutch language skills, and the organizations choosing to list with Volunteer The Hague are enthusiastically searching for a diverse, international pool of volunteers.

For more than a decade, the Feel at Home International Community Fair has been an annual celebration of the uniquely connected and cosmopolitan community of The Hague: providing a warm welcome to newcomers and a friendly meeting place for internationals already living here. An event where everyone and anyone in our diverse community can Feel at Home, attracting as many as 200 exhibitors and 4000 visitors to The Hague City Hall.

It's quite well known that most Dutch people in the metropolitan areas of the Netherlands have an excellent command of English - so much so that it's entirely possible to live in this country for years without needing to learn more than basic Dutch. Nevertheless, we know that most expats are still interested in taking on the challenge of learning Dutch for a variety of reasons: from wanting to make Dutch friends or enjoy Dutch media, to using Dutch to get a job or to get ahead in the workplace. But Dutch has many quirks that can make it hard for learners to master it, and it can often feel like there is an insurmountable plateau after learning basic Dutch. To that end, Volunteer The Hague invited language educator and linguist Gabriel Rodriguez to give the keynote talk at the opening of our latest Mix & Match Networking Event. Here, Gabriel offered attendees some helpful and important tips for how to tackle Dutch language study easily and effectively.

In November, Volunteer The Hague went to Den Haag FM with Dutchbuzz to give a present to Sintvoorieder1, whose vision is to give a Sinterklaas present to as many kids in a difficult situation as possible.
