In this interactive session, community builder Bernice Dekker and expat volunteer Mithila Mohan share a practical and inspiring journey of turning a personal love for art into a thriving community initiative.
Discover how a local neighborhood center (buurthuis) served as the ultimate testing ground- helping Mithila bridge the gap between corporate life, finding local purpose, and growing a small-scale creative venture in The Hague.
Together, they will present "From 9-to-5 to Local Impact: How Volunteering Can Launch Your Passion & Purpose". Through an engaging interview and audience interaction, Bernice and Mithila will share how local neighborhood hubs serve as the ultimate launching pad to bridge cultures, gain practical experience, and turn your hidden talents into real-world impact in The Hague.

About the speakers:
Bernice Dekker is a community builder at Wijkz with a background in strategy and social impact, having started her own "social work" journey through volunteering with the American Red Cross. Over the past year, she built a new neighborhood center ("buurthuis") in The Hague from the ground up to foster local connections. Mithila Mohan is a visual artist and creative teacher who turned her passion into a growing art practice for kids and adults after starting as a volunteer in that very same neighborhood center.
