Due to the growth of our foundation, we have a vacancy for a (general) board member on our board.
Do you believe in the power of the sea as a healing environment and of surfing as an active inspirator for improving people's mental and physical well-being? Then Stichting Soul Surfers is looking for you. We are seeking committed and enthusiastic individuals who know how to create a wave of change not only for themselves at the coast, but also for others by fulfilling a role as a general board member within our foundation.
The Soul Surfers Foundation is a small non-profit organization dedicated to improving the well-being of its participants. It does this, among other things, by eating together and going surfing; surf therapy has been proven effective.
The foundation's board consists of a chairperson, secretary, and treasurer. It fulfills three roles: strategic, advisory, and practical. We consider the strategic direction, advise the project leader on project execution, and have a number of executive/practical tasks.
We are looking for someone to contribute ideas regarding the direction, development, and execution of the foundation. As a general board member, you will make a valuable contribution to the board with your knowledge, ideas, and commitment. This role is broad and flexible, and forms a great addition to the foundation. Should you be interested in a more formal board role in the future, such as chair, treasurer, or secretary, this is certainly open for discussion.
What we ask of you
- Affinity with the mission of the Soul Surfers Foundation
- Interested in social engagement and strengthening well-being
- Willingness to contribute ideas regarding strategy, execution, and practical matters
- Enthusiasm to work together with other board members and volunteers
- Availability for approximately 3 to 4 board meetings per year, plus occasional consultation or support
Your time investment consists of approximately one hour each week contributing ideas regarding ongoing projects and the direction of the foundation, attending a board meeting 3-4 times a year (2 hours each), and potentially assisting with drafting new projects, legal documents, etc.
