About Surfproject

Do you also love the sea? And do you like to share that with enthusiastic others? Surfing experience or experience with the target group is not a requirement! A good heart and love for the sea is!

So much fun last year, with H and L in the sea!
H is just as motivated as I can be: secretly cursing when things don't work out and euphorically proud when they do! In between we chat about Måneskin and his love for serving coffee and tea.

In the afternoon I shared with L her love for the sea, burying feet in the sand and her joy for the speed of the surfboard in the wave.

If you want to share your love for the sea and/or surfing with children with Down syndrome, autism and ADHD and give them an unforgettable experience in the sea, we would love to have you join us as a volunteer for the Surf Project!

The Surf Project is a non-profit organization and provides surfing lessons for children with Down, autism and ADHD (8-18 years) at four locations along the Dutch coast, including Zandvoort. The main goal is to strengthen self-confidence and social skills. The project is run voluntarily by professionals. The children receive lessons from certified surf instructors and are guided in the water by trained volunteers. (you will have a super fun training day!)

As a participant's supervisor, you guide one child during the various lesson moments. You help them remember instructions, you ensure that everything is clear and of course you ensure that the participant can catch a wave in his or her own way. Or you stand in the surf cheering on the children and catching them when they catch a wave. And of course a high-five is indispensable.

Together with the children you share this moment of pride and victory. From the surf you can also clearly see what children need extra help with or what tips you can give them, so that they can get even more out of surfing.
Every surfing season (from May to September) the Surf Project is looking for volunteers who have an affinity with the target group and with the (sea) water and who can follow a series of lessons of three or four days. This way we can offer as many children as possible an unforgettable time on the beach and in the water.
