We are looking for a volunteer simultaneous interpreter to provide live Spanish-to-English interpretation during our event.
About the Role
We are looking for two volunteer simultaneous interpreters to provide live Spanish-to-English interpretation during our event. You will help ensure that all attendees can fully follow presentations, discussions, and Q&A sessions in real time, making the event accessible and inclusive for our English-speaking audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, real-time simultaneous interpretation from Spanish into English throughout the event (approximately 2.5 hours)
- Interpret speeches, panel discussions, and audience questions faithfully, preserving tone and intent
- Arrive 30 minutes early to test interpretation equipment (headset, microphone, booth or portable system) and receive a briefing on the agenda and key terminology
- Review any speaker notes, presentations, or glossaries provided in advance
- Communicate promptly with the event coordinator about any technical issues or breaks needed
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Requirements
- Fluency in both Spanish and English (native or near-native level)
- Prior experience in simultaneous or consecutive interpretation (professional, academic, or volunteer)
- Ability to concentrate for extended periods and work under time pressure
- Clear diction and a confident speaking voice
- Punctuality and reliability
