You will have an opportunity to host contemporary art exhibitions and meet people in the field of arts and culture.

Detailed description

The team of 1646 works with volunteers throughout the year. We are committed to giving our volunteers a valuable experience, providing support throughout the activities and doing our best to help you develop professionally.


For every exhibition at 1646, exhibition hosts puts the exhibition on and welcomes visitors. The host receives a manual and literature contextualising the exhibition. You will get to meet and network with people in the field of art and culture.


For all applicants some knowledge of the English language is necessary. Working days will be determined according to our exhibition periods. We ensure the legal volunteer fee of € 5 per hour (with a maximum of € 170 per month).


Currently, we are looking for an exhibition host who can host our exhibition every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1-6 pm from 2 December 2023 to 7 January 2024. You will be hosting a solo exhibition from Baha Görkem Yalım : https://1646.nl/nl/programma/mulch-sleep/


Additionally, we are looking for exhibition host to host our upcoming exhibition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1-6 pm, from 26 January to 7 April 2024.

About 1646 Experimental Art Space

1646 is an art space in the heart of The Hague. With its experimental, international and free public program, 1646 wants to contribute to an increasingly complex society by challenging existing systems and traditional views, to reflect on the questions that live among us all.
The exhibition program at 1646 shows innovative artistic practices, inviting local and international artists to make new work. With a focus on solo-projects, 1646 offers an in-depth perspective of the artist’s practice via a public program containing a generous overview of exhibitions, artist talks, events, publications, dialogues, podcasts and a residency program. 1646 is a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to creating the space and providing the means for artistic practices to thrive.
