Summary

Are you looking for a closer connection to the queer community? Is meeting new people and expanding your contacts a part of your 2021 resolutions?

Detailed description

Would you like to discover some of your hidden talents and further your development while helping others? We would love to have you as a part of our passionate team: attend our meetings, organise interesting events and, of course, help us build and expand the LGBTQI+ platform at the heart of Leiden!

Leiden Pride is a growing non-profit organisation, searching for energetic board and team members to fill a wide variety of vacancies. Open applications are also welcome, if you want to help out but feel like you are not fit within our current vacancies. If you don’t have a lot of time to offer, contact us and we can help you figure out what type of work suits you best. A little help goes a long way!

Purpose: As the secretary, you work closely with the board, ensuring that we are able to fulfil our responsibilities to Leiden Pride in a transparent manner. Your role is critical, as you maintain all official documents of the organisation and make sure we comply with regulations. Being part of the board is a great way to help the community, ensuring that we are able to fulfil our goals and responsibilities to Leiden Pride!

Location: Meetings online through Slack. Physical headquarters at Plexus, Leiden.

Key responsibilities:

- Take minutes at board and general meetings, ensuring we operate according to our organisation’s principles.

- Maintain and safekeep records of key policies and regulations.

- Oversee team membership by helping onboard and offboard team members.

- Streamline our external communication channels by making sure meetings with external contacts are set up and emails are responded to on time.

Example of a week in the life of the secretary:

- Help schedule board meetings and other engagements such as conferences for the upcoming period (20 minutes)

- Streamline external correspondence (20 minutes)

- Attend and take minutes of board and general teams meeting (60 minutes)

- Develop/maintain internal processes (60 minutes)

Length of appointment: There is a one-month trial period where you are expected to be proactive and get familiarised with the organisation. After the trial month ends you will discuss and set personal and professional expectations and goals with another board member.

Time commitment: On average 2-4 hours a week, days are flexible.

Qualifications:

- You are proficient in English.

- You do not necessarily have specific board experience but are willing to learn.

- You value clear and active communication concerning administration, efficiency, problem solving, and delegation.

- You have an affinity for administration and organisation, from facilitating interactions between the teams, to streamlining our processes.

- You are interested in learning how to use different business communication and lean management platforms, such as Slack and Trello.

What do you get in return

Compensation: This is a volunteer position. As a non-profit, we rely on donations to run our organisation and organise our events. We offer remuneration for expenses made on behalf of Leiden Pride, but at this time we can not offer any further financial compensation.

About Leiden Pride

Objective
- Bringing together the LGBTQI+ community;
- Positively contributing to the enrichment and diversity of the LGBTQI+ community;
- Promoting the safety and integration of members of the LGBTQI+ community in The Netherlands and elsewhere in the world.

Core activity
To achieve these goals we organise — among other things — social and educative events, both in-person and online. From lectures to parties, from movie nights to workshops. When we say “community” we are, of course, talking about the community in Leiden, but certainly also outside of it. Among our regular attendees we have people from many other places within and without the Netherlands.
