Are you looking for a closer connection to the queer community? Is meeting new people and expanding your contacts a part of your 2021 resolutions? Would you like to discover some of your hidden talents and further your development while helping others? We would love to have you as a part of our passionate team: attend our meetings, organise interesting events and, of course, help us build and expand the LGBTQI+ platform at the heart of Leiden!
Leiden Pride is a growing non-profit organisation, searching for energetic board and team members to fill a wide variety of vacancies. Open applications are also welcome, if you want to help out but feel like you are not fit within our current vacancies. If you don’t have a lot of time to offer, contact us and we can help you figure out what type of work suits you best. A little help goes a long way!
Purpose: As an events team coordinator, you align your team’s activities with the work of the marketing team. You are aware of what your team is working on and offer support, advice, and help to ensure that cooperation between teams runs smoothly and follows Leiden Pride values and guidelines. Working as an events team member is never quite the same every month (check out two examples below), requiring some room for flexibility and creativity, but we think that's what makes this position great! As a coordinator, you also have a position on the board, representing your team when necessary. Being part of the board is a great way to help the community, ensuring that we are able to fulfil our goals and responsibilities to Leiden Pride!
Location: Meetings online through Slack. Physical headquarters at Plexus, Leiden.
Key responsibilities:
- Be aware of the processes of your team and how it affects the organisation.
- Be proactive in helping your team set and meet expectations and goals.
- Prepare team meetings as necessary.
- Stay in the loop by keeping in contact with the other team’s coordinator and by attending board meetings.
- Help ensure continuity within your team in terms of organisational culture and values.
Example of a week in the life of an events team coordinator (movie night edition):
- Monday: Pick out fun movie nominees for next movie night (30 minutes)
- Throughout the week: Promote the movie night by sending reminders on Discord and Whatsapp (+/- 10 minutes every few days)
- Friday: Help start up movie night by sending in the correct link (10 minutes + length of movie)
Example of two weeks in the life of an events team coordinator (interactive event edition):
- Tuesday: Events team meeting to brainstorm the next event (1 hour)
- Thursday: Write event description and send it to the marketing team (30 minutes)
- The week after: Follow-up events team meeting to work out the details of hosting the event (1 hour)
- Throughout the week(s): Promote the event on Discord and Whatsapp, work out the details of the event wherever necessary (+/- 10 minutes every few days)
Length of appointment: There is a one-month trial period where you can explore the team coordinator position and get familiarised with the organisation. You are expected to attend meetings during this time and be proactive in terms of learning what your position entails. After the trial month ends you will discuss and set personal and professional expectations and goals with a board member.
Time commitment: On average 2-4 hours a week, days are flexible.
Qualifications:
- You are proficient in English.
- You do not necessarily have specific management skills but are willing to learn.
- You value clear and active communication concerning administration, efficiency, problem solving, and delegation.
- You are interested in coordination and leadership, from facilitating interactions between the teams, to encouraging participatory, democratic processes.
- You have an affinity for networking AND/OR engaging with an audience, either online or in person.
- You are interested in learning how to use different business communication and lean management platforms, such as Slack and Trello.
Compensation: This is a volunteer position. As a non-profit, we rely on donations to run our organisation and organise our events. We offer remuneration for expenses made on behalf of Leiden Pride, but at this time we can not offer any further financial compensation.
About Leiden Pride
- Bringing together the LGBTQI+ community;
- Positively contributing to the enrichment and diversity of the LGBTQI+ community;
- Promoting the safety and integration of members of the LGBTQI+ community in The Netherlands and elsewhere in the world.
Core activity
To achieve these goals we organise — among other things — social and educative events, both in-person and online. From lectures to parties, from movie nights to workshops. When we say “community” we are, of course, talking about the community in Leiden, but certainly also outside of it. Among our regular attendees we have people from many other places within and without the Netherlands.
