Summary

Are you interested in peace & justice and are looking for an opportunity to be more involved in what is going on in The Hague? Then look no further!

Detailed description

Are you passionate about peace, justice, and democracy, and keen to get involved in The Hague’s vibrant international community? This is your chance!

About the opportunity

As The Hague prepares to host the NATO Summit in 2025, the city will come alive with Road to Summit, a city-wide cultural and intellectual programme. As part of this initiative, founding partners: The Hague Humanity Hub, Leiden University and City of The Hague are proud to co-organise the Just Peace Festival, a two-week festival of dialogue, creativity, and community-building centred on the themes of peace, justice, inclusion, democracy, and sustainability.

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help deliver an unforgettable festival experience in June 2025. Volunteering with us is a fantastic way to contribute to a meaningful cause, gain hands-on event experience, and connect with like-minded people and organisations shaping global change.

What will you do?

As a volunteer, you’ll support the Humanity Hub and partners in a variety of roles during the festival period. These may include:

  • Supporting event set-up and take-down
  • Welcoming and registering guests
  • Assisting with talks, workshops, film screenings and debates
  • Helping manage exhibitions, tours and other public events
  • Coordinating attendee flow and logistics
  • Ensuring visitors have a smooth and inspiring experience
  • Photography, videography, live reporting on social media

This is also an excellent opportunity to get an insider’s view of both The Hague’s international ecosystem and local community initiatives that help bring the City of Peace & Justice to life during this key global moment.

Time commitment

We’ll be looking for support from June 12 through June 26. Volunteers can either support one individual or multiple activities, depending on your availability. Volunteers should also be available for a briefing session in early June (exact date TBC).

Who are we looking for?

You don’t need to be an expert, just bring enthusiasm and a proactive spirit! We’d love to hear from you if you are:

  • Enthusiastic and reliable
  • Legal residence in the Netherlands required
  • Comfortable taking initiative and responsibility
  • A strong communicator (English proficiency required; Dutch is a bonus)
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Interested in international peace, justice, and inclusive society
  • Knowledgeable about The Hague’s international organisations or civic landscape (a plus!)

What do we offer?

  • Volunteering certificate
  • Networking opportunities with international and local organisations and like minded individuals
  • Lunch or dinner during your shift, for shifts longer than 4 hours.
  • Hands-on experience in event management and community programming
  • Access to inspiring talks, films, and exhibitions during your shift
  • Just Peace T-Shirt and a small appreciation gift

About the Just Peace Festival & Road to Summit

The Just Peace Festival is a key component of the Road to Summit, a city-wide initiative accompanying the NATO Summit 2025. It brings together residents, students, artists, academics, and professionals to reflect on the values of democracy, security, and international cooperation.

The Festival will feature an exciting line-up of events including:

  • Just Peace Dialogues (with Leiden University)
  • Just Peace Movie Nights (with Filmhuis, Flora Film Theater, Bibliotheek Den Haag and others)
  • Just Peace Music Night (with Paard)
  • Tours, exhibitions, workshops, and community-led events in neighbourhood libraries and public spaces
  • The Hague Talks
  • And more to be announced soon!

Organised by a coalition of local and international partners—The Hague Humanity Hub, Leiden University and the Municipality of The Hague— and in collaboration with various partners in the city - the festival is designed to be inclusive, multi-perspective, and participatory.

Sounds like something for you? volunteer sign-ups are open now. Also feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] if you’d like to ask any questions.
