Agricultural and/or Photovoltaic Designer for Sustainable Land Management Project

Organization: Viable Community

Role Type: Long-term volunteer position, flexible hours

About Us:

Viable Community is dedicated to preserving and regenerating nature through community-managed projects. Our Sustainable Land Management project in the Extremadura region of Spain (which is in the conceptual/designing phase) aims to combat desertification, enhance biodiversity, and promote sustainable agriculture and energy production.

Summary:

We are seeking designers to join our team and contribute expertise in integrating solar energy systems with agricultural practices. The ideal candidate will help design and implement AgriVoltaic systems that optimize land use, conserve water, and enhance soil quality while generating clean energy and supporting food production.

Detailed Description:

As an AgriVoltaic Designer, you will play a key role in implementing our Sustainable Land Management project in Extremadura, Spain. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Designing AgriVoltaic systems that combine solar panels with agricultural crops to maximize land productivity and energy generation
  • Conducting site assessments and feasibility studies to identify suitable locations for AgriVoltaic installations
  • Collaborating with farmers, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate AgriVoltaic systems into existing agricultural practices
  • Developing planting plans and crop selection criteria to optimize shade, water usage, and soil health within AgriVoltaic systems
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance of AgriVoltaic installations, including energy production, crop yields, and environmental impacts
  • Providing training and support to local communities to build and maintain AgriVoltaic systems effectively

Who We Are Looking For:

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Background in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, or related fields
  • Experience in designing and implementing AgriVoltaic systems or similar integrated energy-agriculture projects
  • Knowledge of solar energy technologies, agricultural practices, and soil regeneration techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Commitment to our mission of preserving and regenerating nature through sustainable initiatives

Time Commitment:

6 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate your schedule

Location:

Remote, with occasional virtual meetings and site visits as needed

Training Provided:

General onboarding and training on our project goals and objectives
