About Fair Tourism
Fair Tourism is a Dutch non-profit organization (est. 1989) committed to promoting sustainable, community-based tourism (CBT). We work to ensure Indigenous communities are not treated as tourist attractions, but empowered as leaders in shaping their own tourism initiatives.
We develop capacity-building programs, collaborate with universities, and currently run projects in Thailand, Indonesia, and Kenya. Since 2025, we have also been a proud member of The Hague Humanity Hub.
Why this is a volunteer position
Fair Tourism aims to transition from a volunteer-based operation to a fully professionalized team. To achieve this, we are seeking passionate individuals who want to help shape our next chapter. Your contribution will directly support our ability to secure funding, scale up our activities, and increase our impact on Indigenous communities worldwide.
People and Culture Officer (Volunteer Role)

Join Fair Tourism as a People and Culture Officer and help us create, manage and support a team of changemakers in the world of tourism!
🕓 Commitment: 10–15 hours per week (flexible)
📍 Location: The Hague, Netherlands (Hybrid / Remote)
🤝 Collaboration: The Hague Humanity Hub
💚 Type: Volunteer (unpaid)
⭐ Your Responsibilities
As our People and Culture Officer, you will play a central role in building a healthy, engaged, and organized team. You will be responsible for improving the volunteer experience through research, continuous improvement, and organizational development.
- Gather volunteer feedback and identify improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate volunteer surveys and engagement initiatives.
- Research new tools, systems, and best practice to improve the volunteer experience.
- Review internal guidance and recommend improvements.
- Support projects that strengthen organizational effectiveness.
Who We’re Looking For

Preferred background:
- Human Resources Management
- Business Administration
- Psychology
- Labor Relations
You are someone who:
- Communicates clearly and empathetically
- Enjoys building systems and supporting others
- Can commit to the role in the medium to long term
- Is proactive, reliable, and motivated by meaningful impact
Fresh graduates and early-career professionals, as well as senior experts, are encouraged to apply! Previous experience in the field is a plus but not a must.
