As a practical Group Leader, you combine your practical experience with guiding volunteer groups. You know what needs to be done, maintain an overview, and ensure everyone can get to work. Meanwhile, together with the group, you make an immediate difference for someone who could really use a helping hand.
Who are we?
Present Den Haag is a volunteer organization that mobilizes people to be there for others. Every year, we organize 500 to 600 volunteer projects for, among others, the elderly, people with physical or intellectual disabilities, the homeless, and lonely people. To do so, we collaborate with approximately 70 care and welfare organizations in The Hague.
What are you going to do?
As a group leader, you guide a group of volunteers who have signed up to undertake a one-off practical volunteer project together. These could be, for example, company employees, government teams, education colleagues, students, schoolchildren, families, church congregations, or groups of friends.
The projects a group can undertake can vary. One time you help get a garden back in order, another time you paint a house, lay a floor, or help with tidying up and cleaning.
You are the one who ensures the job runs smoothly. You meet the group on location, explain what needs to be done, and distribute the tasks. You maintain an overview, help where necessary, and ensure that volunteers with varying levels of experience can participate effectively. Of course, you pitch in yourself as well.
Who do we help?
You help people who are unable to carry out certain tasks themselves due to their age, health, or personal circumstances. They often lack a social network or the financial means to hire help.
With just a few hours of your time, you can work with the volunteer group to ensure that someone has a neat garden again, a tidy house, or simply experiences a bit more space and peace.
Hit the road with the work van
Do you have a driver's license? Then you can head out independently with our work van, complete with the accompanying materials and tools. You know how to use tools and materials safely and practically, and can assess on the spot what is needed to get the job done. Is something not going as planned? Then you think in solutions and adjust the approach.
Who are we looking for?
You:
- are handy and have experience with practical jobs, such as painting, gardening, assembling, and working with various types of tools;
- enjoys going out independently with a group of volunteers and taking the lead;
- can oversee a job, distribute tasks, and clearly explain what needs to be done;
- can handle unexpected situations well and know when to improvise;
- treats the people you work for, their homes, and their living environments with care and respect.
You don't need to be a professional craftsman or craftswoman. However, we do expect you to be practically skilled, eager to learn, and comfortable with tools and materials.
What do we offer?
As a Practical Group Leader, you will receive:
- lots of variety: no project and no day are the same;
- an introductory training at the Present Academy. Here you will learn everything you need to get started as a group leader and how to effectively guide a group of volunteers. After the training, you will follow a short onboarding program where you will be introduced to the practical side of things together with an experienced group leader.
- There is also the opportunity to participate in peer supervision sessions where you can exchange experiences with other group facilitators.
- enthusiastic volunteer groups to work with;
- a volunteer allowance of €25 per project ;
- a role in which you can combine your practical knowledge and organizational talent with making a difference for others.
